Program Description

This three-day spaced professional learning will focus on planning for Civics and Citizenship Education in Years 3 – 10. There is an expectation that participants will attend all three sessions. During Days 1 and 2, participants will have an opportunity to collaboratively plan a unit for use in their own classrooms. A celebration and review of these will take place on Day 3.

Presenter, Dr Peter Brett from the University of Tasmania has a wealth of knowledge and experience in teacher training and teaching humanities subjects in the United Kingdom and Tasmania. In this professional learning he will demonstrate strategies for use in Civics and Citizenship classrooms and provide participants with a selection of resources to support teachers in planning, teaching and assessing V9.0 of the Australian Curriculum for Civics and Citizenship (3-10). These days will be informative, practical and fun!

As a result of participating in these sessions, participants will:

  • be aware of the suite of resources available to support the implementation of V9.0 of the Australian Curriculum – Civics and Citizenship
  • understand how to teach CCE in a fun engaging manner
  • collaboratively plan a sequence of learning
  • have a clear plan for CCE in schools
