back to Programs

This program is designed for new literacy coaches employed under the Literacy and Numeracy Coaches Strategy but is open to any other interested literacy leaders.

The Coaching & Literacy Course aims to provide participants with a deep understanding of recent research around the processes of reading, writing, speaking and listening and best practices for literacy instruction. Furthermore, the course provides opportunities to collaborate with colleagues to explore knowledge of coaching and the capabilities required to coach teachers in ways that build teachers’ knowledge and pedagogical skills in literacy teaching and learning to improve outcomes for students.

Participants will understand:

  • What has been established through research about the nature of literacy and the pedagogical approaches that are most effective in maximizing student outcomes
  • Participants will understand current research around effective coaching with a focus on instructional coaching and the capabilities that positively influence students’ outcomes
