Program Description

This is a workshop for all principals and school leaders, teachers, professional support staff, teacher assistants and Inclusive Practice Coaches to support the development of a trauma informed approach to their work.

It is part of the Trauma Informed Practice in Schools professional learning program, developed by the Australian Childhood Foundation with input the University of Tasmania for the Department of Education, Children and Young People.

This workshop is the core session of this professional learning program and will provide an opportunity to explore the neurobiology of trauma and how to use this knowledge to create safe and engaged learning environments using the Making SPACE for Learning Framework. The session with provide participants with knowledge and strategies to build their own toolkit for working with students using a trauma informed approach.

Relief will be provided for all face-to-face sessions of this workshop.

Program Outcomes

Through this training, participants will gain an understanding of the impact of trauma on children and how it may present in the classroom. Participants will have the opportunity to increase their confidence in building strong and healing relationships with all students.

From this workshop participants will have in their teaching toolkit sustainable strategies for working with students impacted by trauma that are immediately applicable.
