Meeting the Standards: Practice-focused Mentoring

The goal of this program is to train and support experienced teachers to mentor early career teachers and other colleagues. Mentoring is a key induction strategy which focuses on supporting early career teachers to transition from the Graduate to the Proficient career stage of the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers.

Participants must hold Full Registration with the Teachers Registration Board of Tasmania.

  • Develop the knowledge and skills required for effective mentoring;
  • Describe and reflect on current practice using the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers;
  • Promote the importance of continuous professional growth and the building of capacity through the mentoring relationship;
  • Promote the use of practice-focused mentoring in schools as effective professional learning, and as a key induction strategy for Early Career Teachers.

Standard 4 – Create and maintain supportive and safe learning environments

Standard 5 – Assess, provide feedback and report on student learning

Standard 7 – Engage professionally with colleagues, parents/carers and the community
