Program Description

What do the changes to V9 of the Australian Curriculum mean for effective implementation for Respectful Relationships (RRE) and Consent Education?

Janice Atkin, who was the Principal Author of the DoE RRE Teaching and Learning Package and led the AC: H&PE Review, will facilitate this full day workshop.

The workshop will include sessions that cover the following:

  • Understanding the evidence base that informs consent and respectful relationships education
  • Embedding consent and respectful relationships education into your HPE program
  • Exploring new teaching and learning activities for teaching consent and respectful relationships
  • Managing sensitive conversations in your classes
  • Exploring the role of language and media literacy in challenging attitudes that condone disrespect and violence.
Program Outcomes

As a result of engaging in this workshop, participants will:

  • increase their knowledge of the understanding and skills related to consent and RRE addressed in the Australian Curriculum V9 (HPE, Ethical understanding and Personal and social capability)
  • increase their understanding of the importance of language and representation of relationships
  • develop and critique practical strategies for teaching consent and relationships education and managing sensitive conversations in their classrooms
  • identify opportunities to enhance an existing unit of work to address new content around consent and respectful relationships education.
