Swimming and Water Safety Requalification Workshop

This program is compulsory for Health & Physical Education teachers who are Teachers In Charge (TIC) for their school Swimming & Water Safety program and are required to requalify each year. It is also open to AUSTSWIM Instructors who teach this program.

The requalification includes:

  • CPR practical and theory assessment
  • Basic rescue theory
  • Basic water rescue assessment
  • Risk management updates
  • Program procedure updates.

The 2019 program will also include guest speakers who will focus on:

  • Engaging Children – Sally Rayner (Senior School Psychologist)
  • Boat Safety – Ian Ross (Marine and Safety Tasmania)
  • Anaphylaxis and Asthma – Debra Banks (Asthma Foundation of Tasmania).

All AUSTSWIM and HPE teachers must complete the Swim Teacher Rescue Award Workbook (Bronze Medallion) prior to attending the workshop. The workbook and a Participant Form will be sent to you by email after you have enrolled.

The completed Swim Teacher Rescue Award Workbook and accompanying Participant Form are to be forwarded to Royal Life Saving Society of Australia – Tasmania at trainingtas@rlssa.org.au or posted to 4 Franklin Street, Lindisfarne 7015 by Friday, 21 December 2018.

The Swimming and Lifesaving Manual that supports the qualifications will be distributed to all schools with primary student enrolments in November and are also available for loan from your Regional Coordinators.

Participants are aware of updates to the Swimming & Water Safety Program and have successfully completed the practical and theory components required to teach Department of Education Swimming & Water Safety programs.
