This program is compulsory for Health & Physical Education Teachers who are Teachers in Charge (TIC) for their school Swimming & Water Safety Program and are required to requalify each year. It is also open to AUSTSWIM Instructors who teach on the program and are employed and paid by the Department of Education.
The requalification includes:
• CPR practical and theory assessment
• Basic rescue theory
• Basic water rescue assessment
• Risk management updates
• Program procedure updates
The 2020 program will also include guest speakers who will focus on:
• The Stage 2 Swimmer – Adam Briggs (St Michael’s Collegiate School Pool)
• Diabetes – (Diabetes Tasmania)
• Key Word Signs for the Pool – (St Giles)
All AUSTSWIM and HPE teachers should complete the Basic Water Rescue Award Workbook prior to attending the workshop. The workbook and a Participant Form are available via the link below. Royal Life will again be offering the opportunity for participants to complete their Bronze Medallion qualification. Please indicate on your participant form either BM for Bronze Medallion or STRA for the Swim Teacher Rescue Award.
The completed Basic Water Rescue Workbook and accompanying Participant Form are to be forwarded to Royal Life Saving Society of Australia – Tasmania at firstname.lastname@example.org or posted to 4 Franklin Street, Lindisfarne 7015 preferably by Friday 31st January 2020, however participants will be given till Friday, 21st February 2020 to complete and return.
In 2019 all schools with a Year 3-5 cohort received a copy of The Swimming and Lifesaving Manual that supports the qualifications if you are unable to locate your schools copy please contact your regional coordinator for loan of a manual.

Participants are aware of updates to the Swimming & Water Safety Program and have successfully completed the practical and theory components required to teach Department of Education Swimming & Water Safety programs.
