The course uses the creation of oral and written texts in the classroom as the basis for the support and development of English. This course is suited to teachers of students with limited English language capabilities. This course brings a functional grammar perspective to the teaching of students who are learning English as a language. This nine-module course is aligned with the current literacy requirements of the Australian Curriculum and considers all teachers as teachers of language in their subject areas.
Completion of the nine modules, including workshops, classroom-based activities, and readings is equivalent to 50 hours of professional learning leading to a Certificate of Completion.
Participants will gain through the course readings and activities an understanding of language acquisition, assessment, and learn how to explicitly teach their subject area as students move from oral texts to written texts.
