Program Description

This is an online workshop for principals, school leaders, aspiring school leaders and professional support staff to support the development of a trauma informed approach to their work.

It is part of the Trauma Informed Practice in School professional learning program, developed by the Australian Childhood Foundation with input the University of Tasmania for the Department of Education, Children and Young People.

This workshop will focus on how to create the culture, policies and practices that support a different approach to teaching and learning that is trauma informed. The session will look at what a trauma informed school looks like (including case studies) and will also help schools use their school improvement framework and planning process and the Student Wellbeing and Engagement Survey data to plan for a whole school approach.

In preparation for this workshop, it is recommended that participants have completed the Trauma Informed Practice in Schools self-paced online modules: https://pli.education.tas.gov.au/program/trauma-informed-practice-in-schools-online-modules/

Note: further instances of this workshop will be available throughout 2023, and this site will be updated with further enrolment dates in the coming weeks.

Program Outcomes

Through this training, participants will develop an understanding of trauma-informed change management strategies and be prepared to drive sustained cultural change across their whole school community. They will be able to describe what trauma informed practice looks like in a school, and feel confident in their ability to create safe, predictable environments for all students.

Following this workshop, participants will possess the knowledge and skills to use data such as the Student Wellbeing and Engagement Survey data to support a trauma informed approach.
