Program Description

This online session caters for educators and leaders at all levels. The session includes a technical demonstration on how to use the Progressive Achievement Tests (PAT) Reporting Power Bi platforms. The Power Bi Report is designed to assist with the interpretation of PAT assessment results, and support the monitoring and reviewing of student summary scores. The report summarises students’ performance using Tasmanian PAT Achievement Categories for each year level, Prep to Year 10, based on PAT Reading and PAT Mathematics assessments.

The program will be held over two sessions with a focus on how PAT can be used to differentiate teaching and plan for next steps in learning. Participants are welcome to enrol in one or both sessions depending on previous experience with PAT.

The sessions will be led by members of the Teacher and Learning team, EPR and ACER and will provide an opportunity to ask specific questions about PAT and its use in your context. Sessions will focus on choosing a specific group of students from within your school and investigate PAT elements and resources through this lens.

Participants are encouraged to engage throughout these sessions, ask questions and provide feedback on future supports and professional learning opportunities that could be supportive in this space.

Program Outcomes

PAT Start Up

Learners will:

  • gain an operational knowledge of the PAT Reporting Power Bi Platform including how to filter reports
  • understand the achievement categories, concept of relative growth and how to view specific cohorts and classes
  • use a basic graphic organiser (Planning for Action Tool) to ‘map’ PAT results, identify possible common need and plan for next steps for learning.

PAT Drop-In Session – Thursday 15th September 2022

This session is designed to be very informal and a chance to drop in and discuss any specific questions you may have regarding PAT and how it can be used to support teaching and learning decisions. All are welcome to this session hosted by members of EPR and Teaching and Learning.

PAT Digging Deeper – Wednesday 28th  September (rescheduled from 15th September)

Learners will:

  • have a quick refresher on using the PAT Power Bi Platform before digging deeper through to the OARS platform (participants will need to ensure they have access to their school’s log in details)
  • understand the OARS reporting platform, unpack the bands descriptors, strand and/or item analysis reports and view and interpret individual student reports
  • use a basic graphic organiser to ‘map’ the PAT results, identify common learning needs and plan for possible next steps for learning (if participants attended Session 1 they are invited to build on the Planning for Action Tool they completed in the first session).
