Developing our Workforce Strategy


Developing Our Workforce Strategy initiatives include:


Teacher Intern Placement Programme: to identify, attract and retain student teachers with suitable academic, personal and professional aptitude into priority teaching areas and locations as identified by the Department. It is an opportunity for UTAS student teachers to be based full-time in a school, whilst undertaking their final year of study. 


Teacher Development InitiativeTeacher Development Initiative – Inclusive Education SpecialisationDesign and Digital Technologies, Early Childhood Specialisation, Science Education Specialists and Maths Specialisation to provide teachers with unique opportunities to be supported by the Department to undertake university accredited courses in specialised areas and in doing so, develop their knowledge, understanding and skills to impact student learning. These programmes support teachers currently teaching in our schools to gain a qualification in designated areas. Teachers participate in intensive learning opportunities to build their expertise which    

                                            will enable students greater access to  more experienced and qualified teachers.

School Leadership Development Initiative School and System Leadership Development Initiative:  to provide experienced school and system leaders with a structured opportunity to further develop their skills and expertise in the areas of educational and executive leadership. This is a key investment in increasing the leadership capacity across the system through post graduate study.

Paraprofessional Development InitiativeParaprofessional Development Initiative:  to provide support and foster the growth and development of Teacher Assistants, by providing the option of a career path to a newly established paraprofessional role which will ensure the provision of high level support for students and teaching staff.

Business Management Development InitiativeBusiness Management Development Initiative: to provide non-teaching corporate support staff, including current School Business Managers and corporate employees, with the opportunity to undertake formal study in the areas of school and government leadership and management.
