This workshop is for Moderators, Inclusive Practice Coaches, Learning Support, CFLCs.
Participants will gain the understanding and skills needed to organise and understand reasonable adjustments and supports that may be required from students with innate variations of sex characteristics (intersex).
About the facilitators:
This session will be facilitated by Working It Out’s Better Lives Project Officer.
Simone-lisa Anderson (she/her) is the Tasmanian representative for IPSA (Intersex Peer Support Australia) also the secretary for all IPSA representatives both nationally and internationally and the IPSA Parent representative for Australia. She is a co-researcher with Interlink (https://www.ilink.net.au/ ), a Yellow Tick facilitator (https://darlington.org.au/yellowtick/ ) and a member of The Tasmanian Whole of Government LGBTIQA+ steering committee, a member of the DoH LGBTIQA+ reference group and the DoJ LGBTIQA+ reference group. She does consultation work within many departments of the Tasmanian Government and other jurisdictions. A founding member of the Restricted Medical Treatment Assessment Board under the ACT’s Variation in Sex Characteristics (Restricted Medical Treatment) Act 2023, and a co-designer of the Victorian intersex Health and Wellbeing Project. She has over 20 years’ experience as a teacher with her focus being within the areas of Science and Mathematics.
At the end of this session participants will be able to:
- Describe the umbrella term – intersex
- Use appropriate language and terminology in relation to innate variations of sex characteristics (intersex)
- Recognize common intersex variations
- Initiate Human Rights based practices
- Be able to provide advice about different reasonable adjustments and supports.
