BeTTR Hour is a series of one-hour online sessions, tailored to the needs of Early Career Teachers (ECT). The program focuses on the fundamentals of teaching and learning meaningful to ECTs, with opportunities to connect with fellow ECTs and to ask any burning questions of expert teachers, across a range of topics.
BeTTR Hour is for ECTs in their first four years of practice. It will be held twice per term on Thursdays at 3.15pm – 4.15pm. Participants can enrol in individual sessions, or the whole series.
Term 1 program:
Session 1 – Getting to know DECYP’s IT systems
– An introduction to using Saris, Edi, Edupoint and DECYP systems
– Delivered by EPR team and Dane Colbeck (Hobart City High School)
Session 2 – Quality Task Design
– Delivered by Wendy Frost: Peo HaSS and Rosemary Anderson: PEO Science
Term 2 program:
Session 3 – Writing in Plain English for Parents and Carers
– Delivered by 26TEN
Session 4 – Students reported against their Learning Plan – Reporting and evidence of learning processes
– Delivered by Denise Foggo: Manager Differentiation and Diversity
Session 5 – Reporting Against the 9-Point Scale
– An overview of DECYP reporting process
– Delivered by Jill Burrill: Assistant Director Quality Teaching
Term 3 program:
Session 6 – Inclusive Practice in the Classroom
– Delivered by the Inclusive Practice team
Session 7 – The Language of Discipline
– Delivered by Dr Bill Rogers
Term 4 program
Session 8 – Teacher Wellbeing; managing workload and organisation strategies
– Delivered by Sara Mulholland: Early Career Teacher Development Lead
Session 9 – Reflective Practices in Teaching
– Delivered by Sara Mulholland: Early Career Teacher Development Lead

Participants in this program will:
- Build confidence and knowledge in key focus areas that relate to teaching and learning for ECTs
- Deepen understanding of supports and resources available at DECYP
- Develop a professional learning network with other ECTs
Teachers:
- Standard 1 – Know students and how they learn
- Standard 2 – Know content and how to teach it
- Standard 3 – Plan for and implement effective teaching and learning
- Standard 4 – Create and maintain supportive and safe learning environments
- Standard 5 – Assess, provide feedback and report on student learning

- Standard 7 – Engage professionally with colleagues, parents/carers and the community
This one-hour session will be delivered Online between 3:15 pm – 4:15 pm.
The link to the meeting platform will be sent to participants prior to the sessions.
Please note, you are only required to enrol once, and your enrolment will cover all sessions.
