Program Description

Successful learners of Mathematics have solid foundations in fundamental Number concepts. The building of these foundations is critical to ensure success in Mathematics. This two-day spaced learning program will focus on two Big ideas in Number: Trusting the Count and Place Value.

The program will be presented by Emeritus Professor Dianne Siemon (RMIT). Dianne Siemon is an acknowledged expert in the development of children’s understanding of number. This program will present teachers and leaders with evidence-based and research informed practice that build teacher capacity and understanding in these ‘Big Ideas’.

The workshops will focus on practices that support a child’s development of these ‘big ideas’ using experiential activities that enable oral literacy, enhance reasoning and build on the most current research in Number.

Program Outcomes

Through engaging in these workshops, participants will:

  • build an understanding of the research behind the big ideas of Trusting the Count and Place Value
  • become proficient in using assessment tools developed through research, to inform future teaching
