Program Description

The Early Career Teacher Development Workshops are a four-day program offered regionally, one session per term, aimed at supporting teachers within their first to four years of the profession. Aligning to the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers, the program provides hands on tools, strategies, and resources to support the transition from graduate to proficient.

Early Career Teachers will be encouraged to become active participants in their profession, undertaking development and engaging with professional teaching networks, while also developing capacity to reflect on and evidence their practice.

The program, facilitated and delivered by DECYP teaching specialists, explores the fundamentals of effective teaching and learning. Early Career Teachers will build skills to manage student behaviour, make adjustments for diversity and inclusion, create learning plans, develop quality assessment tasks, embed the general capabilities into their planning, and learn how to manage their own time and wellbeing. Teachers will also be supported to progress to full registration.

Program Outcomes

Participants in this program will be able to:

  • Reflect on current practice using the Standards to move from the Graduate to Proficient career stages
  • Reflect on and evidence their practice to understand their impact on student learning
  • Develop their professional knowledge, practice and engagement
