Program Description

This program is for early career teachers and those new to teaching in the Prep – 2 classroom.

This professional learning will support Prep to Year 2 teachers to build their professional content and pedagogical knowledge in the area of early reading and writing. It will be connected to the DECYP Phonics Scope and Sequence and the Australian Curriculum v9 and include:

  • phonological and phonemic awareness
  • concepts of print and the alphabetic principle
  • grapho-phonic relationships
  • explicit teaching of the phonics component of reading and writing
Program Outcomes

Participants will:

  • increase their pedagogical content knowledge
  • become proficient in using the DECYP Phonics Scope and Sequence
  • build curriculum knowledge and understand the progression of learning in phonics
